Sofia Chaudhary, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine and serves as Co-Chair of the Violence Prevention Task Force for the Injury Prevention Research Center at Emory. She is also an attending physician in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and a Center for Violence Prevention (CVP) Affiliate.

Dr. Chaudhary’s primary interests and research center on youth firearm violence prevention, with a particular emphasis on developing and implementing health system and community-based interventions. She is deeply engaged in health policy and advocacy efforts aimed at advancing evidence-based firearm violence reduction strategies.

At Emory, Dr. Chaudhary leads her pediatric emergency department’s firearm suicide prevention program, which aims to reduce access to lethal means among high-risk youth presenting to the emergency department. This initiative builds on her prior pediatric emergency medicine fellowship work under the mentorship of Dr. Joel Fein at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where she focused on firearm secure storage education and gun lock distribution for patient families. She is also a part of the Children’s Hospital Association Gun-Related Events Collaborative, which conducts database research on youth firearm injury trends, disparities, and health care utilization.

Dr. Chaudhary completed a Health Policy Fellowship through the Academic Pediatric Association, where she developed expertise in translating clinical and research insights into actionable policy and advocacy. She has provided expert testimony for state-based firearm safety legislation and leads healthcare coalitions dedicated to advancing firearm safety initiatives. In addition, she directs advocacy training for the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at Emory and serves as the Chair of the Council on Injury, Violence, and Poison Prevention for the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
