Bullying Prevention Programs at CVP
For more than 20 years, bullying prevention experts at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s (CHOP) Center for Violence Prevention (CVP) have partnered with administrators, teachers, and staff in the School District of Philadelphia to show children how to prevent aggression and bullying by recognizing and managing feelings, reading social cues, and being positive bystanders.
The Communities We Serve
We serve schools in our local community by developing, implementing, and evaluating our evidence-based prevention programs. Our programs were developed through an extensive participatory research framework that combines best-practice science with feedback from diverse community stakeholders to prevent aggressive and bullying behaviors and promote positive social-emotional skills among students attending schools in under-resourced school communities. Specifically, many of our programs were developed in partnership with Philadelphia elementary school students and their teachers, parents, and community members, and our programs are currently being tested or implemented in these same schools
Preventing Aggression in Schools Everyday (PRAISE)
We partner with elementary schools within the School District of Philadelphia to deliver a 20 session classroom-based bullying prevention program to 3rd – 5th grade students that teaches problem-solving, perspective taking, and how to be a positive bystander.
Friend to Friend (F2F)
We partner with counselors and teachers from elementary schools within the School District of Philadelphia to deliver a school-based relational aggression intervention to 3rd-5th grade girls. This compromises a small group program for girls and accompanying classroom lessons for girls’ classmates.
A current 40 school clinical trial is examining the effectiveness of F2F led by school staff with coaching from CHOP for relationally aggressive girls and their classmates.
Bullying Classroom Check-Up
We partner with elementary teachers from the School District of Philadelphia and Anne Arundel Country Public Schools in Maryland to provide bullying prevention support for teachers through classroom strategies and behavior interventions.
