VIP assists clients and families in developing physical safety plans and advocating within external systems related to child welfare and family violence.

File VCAP claim for client/caregiver safety expenses reimbursement
  • Outline application process 
  • Assist in completion of application
  • Provide guidance about and assist with supplemental application components (e.g., receipts)
  • Ask questions of VCAP personnel on behalf of clients and caregivers 
  • Submit physical copy of VCAP or provide necessary mailing items (envelope, stamps) to caregiver
  • Follow-up on status of application and/or payment
Make Child Protective Services (CPS) report
  • Complete CPS report 
  • Engage in follow-up conversations related to CPS report 
  • Notify family about making CPS report (if applicable)
Provide education and communication to family about missing child status
  • Communicate with Department of Human Services/ Child Welfare Services
  • Communicate with police department 
  • Communicate with caregiver 
  • Obtain status updates on missing child
Provide physical safety planning for client
  • Schedule safety planning meeting with school 
  • Coordinate safe living arrangements 
  • Establish set safety process for youth and family, including identifying safe people & places 
  • Refer youth to external violence prevention provider
Refer client or caregiver to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) resources
  • Refer client or caregiver to IPV resources
Report missing client
  • Make police report with caregiver 
  • Make report to National Human Trafficking Hotline 
  • Make report to National Network for Missing and Exploited Children
Support client/caregiver in making police report
  • Discuss and describe police report process with client and caregiver 
  • Follow up on police report with assigned law enforcement 
  • Make police report with client or family 
  • Provide family with updates related to police report process
  • Obtain copy of police report for family
