"I had the amazing opportunity to take part in the CIRP Injury Science REU Internship program. I was an active member of the UPLIFT Study under the mentorship of Katelin Hoskins, PhD, MBE, CRNP. As my first undergraduate research experience, the experience opened my eyes to the possibilities of qualitative research and implementation science in the clinical setting, transforming research into action. During my summer, I took part in conducting qualitative data analysis, working in participatory design workshops, notetaking in interviews, and learning implementation science theory. I learned about research management, scheduling, and enhanced my skills in REDCap, Excel, and Outlook. This research experience was truly an applicative experience in which I explored theories that were previously taught in the classroom.

The CIRP REU Program also provided me with exposure in career exploration and the opportunity to speak with top researchers and academics in the injury prevention field which proved to be unparalleled. Moreover, I conducted informational interviews across the areas of health ethics, general counsel, contracts, research compliance, and qualitative research. The internship placed me at the urban intersection of some of the greatest innovators of medicine and research. There is truly an unmistaken confidence that one takes back after the CIRP REU experience with a renewed excitement for breakthrough-making."
